Greek tanker Orfeas was hijacked around 0100 LT Oct 6 2012 off Abidjan, Ivory Coast, during STS operation, reported Tradewinds quoting security consultants AKE. The Orfeas was to offload two shipments of gasoline on a lightering tanker Admiral L, one was successfully completed, but when Admiral L arrived to the Orfeas position for a second lot, Greek tanker disappeared, reported security consultants AKE. Vessel’s AIS signal was last spotted at around 1900 UTC Oct 6 in position 01 46N 000 36W, about 217 nm almost due south of Accra, Ghana. There are more than 30,000 tons of gasoline on board of Orfeas. Crew is 24, consisting of Greek and Filipino nationalities. AKE said that if tanker is hijacked, then, it’s the first hijack in Ivory Coast waters in recent years.

The identity of the Liberia flagged, German owned tanker hijacked on Oct 4 and released on Oct 5 remains unknown.
